Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 to Include Airport Line: Official Announcement

HMRL has officially announced that Phase 2 of Hyderabad Metro will include a corridor to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has officially confirmed that Phase 2 of the metro expansion will include a dedicated airport corridor connecting the existing network to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad.

Phase 2 highlights:

Airport corridor: From Raidurgam (existing terminal) to RGIA — approximately 31 km
Additional corridors covering Kokapet, Financial District, and Patancheru
Phase 2 capacity: 120 km of new track
Estimated completion: 2029–2030

The airport metro line is expected to dramatically reduce travel time from Hyderabad city centre to the airport from the current 45–90 minutes (by road) to under 35 minutes.

Financial model: The Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 is expected to be developed under a public-private partnership similar to Phase 1.
